COMPOSITE LICENSING FEES

At the last meeting cf the Matamata County Council Mr S. H. Juch.l reported that he had attended a meeting of the committee! appointed by the last conference of local bodies The same was convened to consider a report by the solicitorsi, Messrs Swarbrick and Swarbrick, to the Waipa County Council on the above. Their report stated that they now 1 considered the project possible and desirable, but raised three points: (1) That the Veal© of fees suggested did not comply with the Public Works Act in respect to heavy traffic licenses. This objection was met oy striking out the lowest motor vehicle license fee, viz., three ton, load and vehicle.

(2) That the local bodies concerned should have before them tire Cambridge Borough proposed bylaws under which these fees would be collected. The committee requested the Cambridge Borough to forthwith instruct their solicitor to draw same up, and to this the Mayor, who was present, consented, and they will be forwarded to each local body concerned. (3) That the allocation of the tees would cause tremble. The committee are informing the Waipa Council that a year ’s trial of the present suggestions will either prove itss usefulness or otherwise, and iu the latter case actual experience will probably enable a more satisfactory ' method to be suggested and adopted.
