The Government Statistician has issued his quarterly statement, which shows that Hamilton the unenviable honour of being the dearest place in New Zealand to live in ; a position attributable to the high rents. In the food group (groceries, dairy produce and meat), Hamilton (64.32) is,below the Dominion average (67.48). Blenheim (80.68) is the highest, and Taihape (50.79) the lowest. Hamilton, in regard to rent, is an easy first, the index figures being 1822, Wellington coming next with 1301. In all groups Hamilton’s figure is 1853, Rotorua and Gisborne being next, each at * 1695. Waihi (1446) is the lowest on the list.
