TAURANGA-TE PUKE.

Hie football match between the lauranga and Te Puke soccer players on Thursday last attracted a fair attendance. Baker (Te Puke) and Katclilfe (Tauranga) captained the elevens. In the first few minutes the Te Puke forwards dribbled through and shattered the opposition, scoring cleverly; Te Puke 1, Taurangp, 0. Tauranga rallied, W. Fergusson leading repeated rushes, which were very effective. R. Meikle (2), L. Fergusson (2), W. Fergusson (3), Pedrick (2) each registered goals for Tauranga, while

Lowe and Hamden scored for To Puke, the whistle sounding in TanrangaT favour by 9 goals to 5. Mr. A. Peters carried' out the duties of referee in a strict and impartial manner.

After the match the visitors were entertained to dinner at the Tauranga Hotel. The prospects for the "Soccer ’ game are promising. The teams which turned out last Thursday possesses some excellent material, aonu of the players having been players of some repute in the Old Country. A return match will be played at Te Puke on June 3.

A meeting of the local soccer club will be held at Mr. L. Norris's saloon at 7.30 on Friday evening.
