Bruce Cycling Club

» About a dozen gentleman Resembled at Mrs M'Farlane'a Temperance Hotel on Wednesday evening to oonslder the advisability of re forming the oyoling olub. Mr J. B, M'Clymont waa voted to the chair. The Chairman stated that the object of the meeting waa to form another oyolfng olnb, as tbe old one had died a natural death, and if they did bo the committee of the former olub intended to hand over the funds in hand to the new body. Dr Sutherland said that there was no time like the pr*aent, when a good deal of interest waa being taken in oyoling matters, and it would be best to strike while tbe iron was hot. He had muoh pleasure in stating that it waa a certainty that a cycling traok was going to be laid down and then* would be no necessity to worry about suitable grounds. Their worthy townsman. Mr J. A. Duthie, almost guaranteed that he would put a track upon a ground that would be one of the most convenient ir> Milton. There was no question in his mind but that a splendid site would be ohosen, and in the near future they would have a first olasa sports ground and cycling track, thereby supplying a much-needed want. He thought too much oould not be eaid in appreciation of Mr Dathie's exceedingly generous offer, and Milton ought to feel proud of possessing suoh a oitizoa. Dr Sutherland's remarks were received • with loud applause. Mr J. M'Leod moved,— '• That a oyoliDg olub be formed, to be called the Bruoe Cycling Club." — Seoondod by Mr B. M'William ami carried. The election of office-bearers was then proceeded wich* and resulted as follows : — President, Mr J. A. Duthie ; vico presidents, Dr Sutherland, Messrs Petrie, J. Eastes, A. B. Haggjtt and Griffith Roberts ; hon. seoretary, Mr J. M'Leod ; boo. treasurer, Mr J. B. ■ M'Clymoat ; committee, Messrs T. J. Grant, W. Hall, J. Lane, H. G. M'Clymont, G. M'Donald, H. M'William, A. Parlanc, B. V. RelUy, W. VVattera and the other cm e-bearors ex officio The members' eubfioripwou, on the motion of Mr Chalmerß, seconded by Dr Sutherland, was fixed at Salt waa resolved, on the motion of Messrs Petrie aad Chalmers, to affiliate to the League of New Zealand Wheelmen. Mr Pettie moved — ** That a very hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr J. A. Duthie for the way in whioh he has come forward, and for the prospect he has offered of a oyoling traok being laid down in Milton." — t'toonded by Dr Sutherland acd carried by acclamation. Mr Chalmerß said be thought that Milton ought to be very pioud of Mr Duthie. No other town that he knew of possessed a oitizen who would oome forward in such a magnanimous manner as Mr Duthie had done, and make euoh a marvellous offer. — (Loud Applause). It waß decided to hold a committee meeting on SVednestUy, Ist June. A hearty vote of thanks waa paaßed to Mra M'Farlane for the use of the room.
