DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET.
Wheat. — Ii; is with pleasure we have to report that this cereal continues in good demand and prices have further improved by 2d to 3d per bushel since last report. From statistics of the supplies available for Australia it is evident New Zealand must contribute to a very large extent to their requirements and prices must unquestionably keep firm here. A shipment of Californian wheat will arrive in Sydney shortly but this will only affect the market temporarily as regards an immediate sale, but without necessarily altering the values here, at the same time were Californian Shipments to arrive freely, this would no donbt have the effect of making values recede here while low prices ruling at home leaves no margin for shipment there. We quote prime velvet and Tuscan at 4s 4d to 43 6d, ordinary at 4s to 4s 3d ; prime red straw, 4a 3d to 4\ 41 ; medium do, 4? to 4i 21 ; inferior milling, 33 9i to 3s lid ; fowl wheat, 2* lOd to 3a 6d ex store. Oats. — There has been a good demand for all descriptions during the week, and in the absence of many consignments coming to hand prices to-day have improved by Id to 2d per bushel aud still have a hardening tendency. This improvement is the result of millers having bare supplies and not from any material advance in values either in Sydney or Molbourne. Several lines are still being held on farmers' account, and unless additional consignments of prime parcels arrive, or those now held being offered for sale, prices will continue firm for local consumption, but before shipping of any consequence occurs prices must improve in Australia. The quotations to day for extra choice stout bright milling, 2a 41 to 2i sd, but, of this description few lots are offering ; ordinary milling, 2j 31 ; heavy bright feed, 2a id to 2i 2hl ; ordinary feed, 2a ; discoloured, Is 9.1 to 13 lid. Barley. — There is no demaid for malting parcels, and the quotations are 2s 91 to 3s, while 2a 6 I may be quoted for milling, and feed, 2a to 2s 3d, with a limited enquiry.
