DUNEDIN RACES.

The D. 3. C. Winter meeting commenoed ! on the Forbury Course on Saturday last. Fully 2000 people were present, and the weather was glorious. Inconsequence of Mr J. P. Lance's recent death, the flag on the Grandstand was half-mast high, the front of the Judge's box croped in black, and the jockeys wore crape badges. The first race was the Selling Hurdle Race, of 80 sovs., which was won by Mayboy, Rocket 2, and Peter Flat 3. Mitchell's Cathedral won the Maiden Plate of 50 sovs., and paid a dividend of £16 12a. The Provincial Handicap, of 200 sovs., was won by Stead's Marion, Toke Miss 2, and Don Jose 3. Dan O'Brien's Erin won the Trot, of 75 sovs., Guage 2, and Polly 3. Mokarakara won the Selling Race, of 50 sovs. The Tradesman's Handicap, of 100 sovs., was

another victory for Marion, Spade Guinea 2, and Quibble 3. Bweetbriar won the Hack Race, of 20 sovs. The weather yesterday was again glorious, and the attendance good. Borderman won the Hurdle Race, of 80 so vs., Trapper 2, and Peter Flat 3. The Birthday Handicap, of 150 bovb., was won by Spade Guinea, Marion 2, and Jack 3. Revolver won the Novel Baoe, of 80 sovs., Cheap Jack 2, and Mokarakara 3.
