THE BRUCE RIFLES.

PRIZE-FIRING. No less than 34 members of the Company attended at the Butts yesterday to compete for a number of prizes subscribed for the most part by the inhabitants of Milton and the district. The Committee appointed to colleot subscriptions were very successful, having obtained a good sum in cash, and two dozen prizes in kind, which ranged from a 10-gallon keg of beer, valued at 27a 6d, to a couple of pairs of sheep shears. The weather was all that could be desired, but, with one or two exceptions, the shooting was not up to the average, no doubt owing to want of practice. The match was a handicap one, and the ranges were 200, 400 and 500 yards, five shots at each range. Vol. Murray secured the Company's range prize at 200 yards, and also a small money sweepstake got up on the ground among a few of the members. Vol. Hollick won the range prize at 400 yards, with the good score of 22, and Vol. Grant the sweepstake with 18. Grant also won the two range prizes at the 500 yards with 19 points. Following is a list of the prize takers with their scores : —
