PLOUGHING MATCH AT GREEN ISLAND.
The Annual Ploughing Match of the Dunedin Agricultural Association, took place at Walton Park, Green Island, on Friday last, about 200 spectators were present, most of whom were Taieri settlers. Owing to the disinterested feelings of the majority of the Green Island settlers in the success of the Match, there were only 13 entries in the senior class, and 2 juniors.
The following is the prize list :— SENIORS*
Ist prize, L5, James Bryce ; 2nd do, L4, John Paterson ; 3rd do, L3, Thomas M'laggart; 4th do, L2, William Hamilton ; sth no, Ll, Alexander Campbell * the five all Ponton's ploughs. SPECIAL PRIZES; Best Break : A set of swingle-trees, presented hp Messrs Watson and Gow, James Bryce. Best finish* set of poles, presented by Mr Alexander Hall, Green Island— John Paterson. Fyfe, John Howden, Thos. Muir, James Black, and Wm. Wylie. At six o'clock the Committee, ani a number of others, were entertained to dinner hy Hosi Eaggerty. Mr William Barr, M P.C, occupied the chair. After the usual loyal toasts were disposod of, and a few songs, all dispersed, highly pleased with the entertainment, which reflected great credit upon Host. Eaggerty for the ample and efficient production of good things. Owing to the small amount ot support received by the district the Committee did not deem it advisable to have a dinner. We are informed that the entertaining of the Committee was at Mr Eaggevty's expense.
