TAKAPAU SPORTS.

WEDNESDAY. [OWN correspondent.] The Caledonian Society's annual sports meeting on Wednesday, as is usual with that old established club, there was a splendid attendance, both of onlookers and competitors and the gate receipts and acceptances should have been large. The majority of the events were most keenly contested, and resulted in close finishes. Berrv, the 19 year old Masterton boy again succeeded in winning the 100 yards this year, after a great race with Woodger, of Dannevirke, who started off 3 yards, being penalised I yard for his Matamau win. Alick Campbell from 14 yards behind scratch got a most popular victory in the mile, in the excellent time of 4min 27 3-5 sees. The wrestling events were watched with interest, and resulted in wins for Brophy and Hansen, in the Cumberland, and catch-as-catch can style respectively. Altogether the meeting Avas a success, passing off most smoothly which reflects great credit on the secretary, Mr W. C'uthbertson and his stewards.
