Renter's Calcutta agent states that a sensation has been caused by the arrest of ten men belonging to the 10th Jats, a native infantry regiment stationed at Calcutta, on a charge connected with sedition. They were imprisoned in separate cells. $t is expected that the regiment will be transferred. It is understood that very few are affected, though it is ascertained that direct efforts have been made to tamper with the men's fidelity. Surendranath Bamierjee, a wellknown Hindu journalist, called a meeting at Barrackpore to devise means to prevent bomb outrages on railways in India. (Received Januarv 19, 9 a.m.) LONDON, January 18. A seditious drama played in the native theatres in Deccan portrays the murder of an oppressive King, allegorically intended for Lord Cnrzon. Many copies of the text of the drama have been circulated. Many appeals have been made to the Government to suppress seditious literature and native newspapers.
