RELIEF FOR DOCTORS
OTAGQ SUPPORTS SCHEME
"NO NIGGER IN WOODPILE"
P.A. DUNEDIN, this day. House surgeons in the employ of the Otago Hospital Board are to be permitted to do locum tenens work for doctors needing a holiday or being ill. The chairman, Dr. D. G. McMillan, states that there was no "nigger in the woodpile," as the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. Allan J. Moody, suspected. The proposal originated with the profession itself, it being recognised that some doctors were unable, during the war years to obtain relief for an urgently-needed holiday. The hospital board last night decided to advertise for a full-time tuberculosis director and a full-time psychiatrist, each post carrying £1500, plus £100 teaching fee from the university.
