He obtained his wings in New Zealand prior to leaving for overseas in November, 1943. PilotOfficer Kershaw was educated at the New Lynn Primary and Mount Albert Grammar Schools and was a member of the Grammar Old Boys' Football Club and a keen Manukau yachtsman.
