WHANGAREI R.S.A.

SITE FOR CLUBROOM

PURCHASE OF PROPERTY

WHANGAREI, this day

A decision to purchase a property near the Whangarei business area on which later to erect clubrooms, and to take immediate advantage of the Patriotic Committee's offer of a servicemen's hut to open as a temporarv clubroom was reached at a meeting of the Whangarei R.S.A. last night. Mr. F. Eyles reported that an option on a property over the area with a double frontage and containing three houses, two glasshouses and a small shop, had been secured, the total purchase price being £3100. Mr. Eyles said it was not proposed the association should embark on the scheme at present, when so many ex-servicemen needed homes, and a servicemen's hut could be used as clubrooms in the meantime.

The first job suggested was laying down a bowling green on the section. An anonymous donation of £750 towards the club had been received, while from just over 100 members £1100 had been promised, and further funds would be raised if a permit was granted for a picnic race meeting proposed to be run by the Whangarei Racing Club in March. The meeting authorised the purchase unanimously.

The association also decided, because of increased membership and limited accommodation, to change the usual reunion to a buffet reunion. Next Anzac Day, it was decided, a dawn parade should be held with a service at the Cenotaph.
