REPORTED MISSING

WELLINGTON LAUNCH O.C. w ELLINGTON, Thursday. Believed to have left Wellington by launch for Picton within the last few days, Mr. Charles Garrood, engineer, "Petone, is missing. Mr. Garrood, an elderly man, set out for Picton last Thursday in the launch Alecia, but turned back when his boat developed a leak. Since then no trace of the launch has been found. There is a possibility that Mr. Garrood again set out for Picton, where he has not arrived. Naval authorities have no record of the launch having sailed out of the harbour. but state that it would be possible, although unlikely, for the Alecia to get out unobserved. A search is being conducted. The Alecia is a 23ft launch with two masts, and is painted white.
