BRUSH WITH ENEMY

BRITISH NAVAL FORCES Rec. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 10. The Admiralty states that during an offensive sweep in the vicinity of Ijmuiden, Holland, early this morning, light coastal forces of the Royal Navy encountered an enemy convoy of four merchantmen escorted by four E-boats oi\ R-boats and several armed trawlers. The British ships pressed home the attacks to close range and scored torpedo hits on one of the supply ships. When last seen 30ft of the bow of an enemy vessel was protruding from the sea at an angle of about 45 degrees and escorts were picking up the survivors. The British ships all returned, having sustained neither damage nor casualties. ■
