FOUR DESTROYED
Few Scattered Planes Cross
English Coast
CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, HIT
Rec. 2 p.m.
LONDON, Dec. 10.
Four raiders were destroyed tonight after a few scattered enemy planes had crossed the south-east coast of England. A Very small number penetrated the London area, giving the metropolis the first alert since December 1. Spasmodic gunfire was heard in several London districts. One raider which dropped flares became the target for a concentrated barrage. Hundreds of watchers in one area saw a raider shot down. Bombs fell in the vicinity but there were no casualties. Raiders flying high over the coast met what the residents describe as the greatest barrage ever heard. High explosives and incendiaries were dropped on an East Anglian village damaging cottages. A coilvent high school in Thames estuary received a direct hit. Casualties are feared.
