A five-year plan to replace the worst conditioned bridges in the Whangarei County with reinforced concrete structures, approved by the Main Highways Board, was submitted to the Whangarei County Council to-day The estimated expenditure involved is £67,000. The first year's work is expected to cost £27,000, the council's contribution being £6boo.

The district highways engineer, m referring to the serious bridging situation throughout Northland said that every effort should be made to proceed with urgent renewals. Ihe county engineer remarked that the most dangerous bridges were oft the main highways. He was instructed to report fully to the next council meeting.
