BAN LIFTED

• RACING ON SATURDAYS Rec. 12.5 p.m. CANBERRA, this day. The Federal Cabinet has abolished the ban on racing on the first Saturday in every month, commencing on November 1. The restriction has been in operation for a year. TRACKS VERY HEAVY Owing to the heavy state of the ground as the result of the almost continuous rain that has fallen during the past few weeks, there has been a very limited amount of fast work at EHerslie. PLEASING TRAINER One of the best workers at Hastings lately has been Voltaire, a younger fulibrother to The Monarch. Voltaire showed promise at two and three years, when he was placed in classic events, and he looked the type likely to improve with age. INVULNERABLE PLANS Although F. W. Ellis has four three-year-olds in his team with an engagement in the Dunedin Guineas, he will only attempt to get Invulnerable ready for the mile classic. The half-brother to Royal Lancer has not done as well lately as Ellis would like, but it is expected that he will pick up again quickly. HAS PLENTY OF SPEED The novice Carnwath has shown any amount of speed in her races, and will only need to stay on a little better in order to win a minor event. The Salmagundi filly is engaged in the Taumarunui Stakes and the Kerepeehi Handicap at the Ohinemuri meeting and should run prominently on the turning track at Paeroa. MAKING GOOD PROGRESS During the' last few weeks Kiatere Maati has been speeded up in his work, and he is steadily improving in condition. Recently he hit out very freely over a sprint distance, and the son of Mr. Standfast gives every indication of developing into a good middle distance performer this season. GOOD TRACK GALLOPER As usual, Transmitter continues to register fast trials at EHerslie, but he fails to run up to them in his races. This five-year-old son of Vaals is down to contest the Ngatea Handicap", seven furlongs, at Paeroa next Saturday, and it will be interesting to see how he acquits himself. He put up a smart gallop over six furlongs at EHerslie this morning, and if he repeats it at Paeroa he would be a possibility.
