YORKISH SPARKLES

SEMIFINALS AT TAKANINI Impressive efforts by Yorkish and Kentish were the highlights of semi-final gallops at Takanini this morning, -when | horses with engagements at Paeroa on Saturday were sent against the watch. They were on the grass track next to the rails, and the poles were ten feet i out. Although the going was in good j order, it was not conducive to fast times. Yorkish led Balfron over the early ; stages of five furlongs and was half a < length in front at the post, in 1.4 3-5, both horses putting plenty of zest into their lask as they ran over the last furlong. . ibrkish has improved since his success at Ellerslie I Kentish, which promises an early refurn to form, was going away from Route i.larch at the end of a similar distance in 1.5. Route March certainly was conceding Kentish a good deal of weight, but ■he was beaten a long way from home. The Poland Cup candidate, Monte Cristo, > retained friends by running six furlongs nicely in 1.19, while the best half-mile | went to the credit of the novice Lady s Dink, which stepped out stylishly while Clocking 51 3-ss. Lord Chancellor was much more impressive than Representative over seven furlongs, the latter being no use to him, and even though Representative was within half a length at the finish in 1.34 it was only, on sufferance. Other gallops:— Three furlongs.—Recipient, 40 3-ss; Yours and Mine and British Patrol, 39 3-ss; Gay Chat and Great Treasure, 40s; Indian Princess and Spirillum, 40 2-ss; ißallroom, 41s. I Half-mile.—Brief, 51 4-ss; Prompt, 52 2-ss; Merry May, 565; Eagle Hawk, 53 2-ss. I Five furlongs.—Beau Dink and Kittyora, 3..5 3-5; Laddie Boy and Sousa, 1.7; Beau "Vaals and Gaymiss, 1.5 3-5; Tellsom and La Fillette, 1.5.
