SLY GROG SOLD
SECOND CONVICTION
THREE MONTHS FOR SOLDIER A soldier, Geoffrey Green (39), appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, and pleaded guilty to a charge of selling liquor without a license, having been previously convicted of a similar offence on August 19. It was stated by Sub-Inspector Joyce that at 6.25 p.m. on Saturday a constable in plain clothes saw Green approach three servicemen at the corner of Cook and Bledisloe Streets and hand a bottle of wine to one of the servicemen. ' When accosted by the constable, Green admitted selling a bottle of wine for 10/, saying he was hard-up and; wanted money to buy food. Green had only been discharged from prison a few days after serving a sentence of one month for selling liquor without a, license, and was absent without leave from camp. Green, who had nothing to say, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
