THEFT AT PARTY
"HOSPITALITY ABUSED"
GAOIi FOR THREE YOUNG MEN "People who abuse hospitality in this way know what's coming to them," said Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, when he sentenced three young men who appeared on summons and pleaded guilty to a charge of theft. John Joseph Charles, factory hand, was charged with stealing a pair of gloves and overcoat, of a total value of £13 12/; Charles King, factory hand, with the theft of a scarf worth 10/; and Frederick Willia'ms, motor driver, with stealing a monoy box worth 5/ arid a halfsovereign worth 15/. Sub-Inspector Joyce said the three defendants attended a party at Avondale on the night of July 23, and before they left the house they stole the articles mentioned in the charge from a bedroom. "It was a very mean theft from the place where they had been entertained," added Mr. Joyce. None of the defendants had anything to say to the magistrate, who sentenced each to three weeks' imprisonment with hard labour.
