U.S. BUSINESS TAXATION
Net Income of 710 leading United States manufacturing companies reviewed by the National City Bank of New York amounted to 2,712,000,000 dollars for 1941, and 3,605,000,000 dollars for 1942, an increase of 32.9 per cent; but when Federal income and excess profits taxes and post-war credits were taken off the net income for 1942 was 1,210,000,000 dollars, compared with 1,397,000,000 dollars for 1941. Percentage of net Income taken by taxes for 1942 was 66.4 per cent. I compared with 48,5 per cent for 1941. Return on capital, 1942, was 9.6; for 1941 it was 11.9. i
