AT THE MARTS

GRAPEFRUIT SUPPLIES Cauliflowers were in plentiful supply at the city markets to-day, with values easier. Kumaras were also in good supply, but carrots were forward in less quantity with prices unchanged. Celery was in good supply with prices lower. Pumpkins were, less plentiful and also cabbage. A fair demand existed for hothouse tomatoes and for choice outdoor. Tree tomatoes were steady. A few local marmalade grapefruit realised good values. A good demand was seen for hothouse grapes, passion fruit and Chinese gooseberries. Guavas sold at higher rates. Prices were:— Fruit.—Tomatoes: Hothouse, 1/6 to 2/2 per lb; outdoor, " smooth, choice, 18/ to 30/ per case; others and No. 2, 5/ to 15/ per- case. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 8/ to 15/6 per case; Yellow sold at 8/ to 12/ per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 30/ to 43/ case. Grapes: Gros Colman, 2/6 to 4/10 lb. Chinese gooseberries, 25/ to 30/ case. Cape gooseberries, 1/6 lb. Passion fruit, 15/ to 32/ case. Persimmons, 4/ to 9/ case. Strawberries: Captain Cook, extra choice, 3/ chip. Guavas, 6/ to 17/6 case.

Vegetables.—Beet, 6d to 2/ dozen. Celery, cooking, 1/6 to 2/6 bundle; dessert. 2/ to 4/6 bundle. Carrots, 3/ to 6/6 bag. Cauliflowers, 4/6 to le/ sack. Cabbages, local, 5/ to 15/; Pulcekohe and Ohakune, 16/ to 29/ sack. Cucumbers. 2/6 to 0/3 dozen. French beans, 3/ to 12/6 bag. Strlngless beans, 15/ to 20/6 bag. Green peas, 10/ to 34/6 bag. Kumaras, Tauranga, 4/ to 6/ bag; local, 6/ to 12/ bag. Lettuce, 2/6 to 13/9 case. Marrows. 1/6 to 4/ sack. Melons, citrons, 5/ to 9/6 sack. Onions, good local, 16/ cwt. Potatoes, 10/6 cwt. Pumpkins, good Crown, 10/ to 18/ cwt; others. 2/ to 10/ sack. Parsnips, 20/. cwt. Radish. 3d to 1/ dozen. Rhubarb, 4/ to 10/ dozen. Spinach, 2/6 to 3/ dozen. Spring onions, 1/ to 2/6 bundle. Swedes, 2/6 to 4/9 bag. Turnips, 13/ cwt. Brussels sprouts, 6d to 8d lb. Leeks, 1/ to 1/3 bundle.
