INTERNED IN FORMOSA

NETHERLANDS OFFICIALS The Netherlands East Indies Red Cross has received official confirmation that the Governor-General of the Netherlands East Indies, Jonkheer A. W. L. Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouwer, as well as the Governor of Sumatra, Mr. A. S. Spits, who were taken prisoners by the Japanese, have been transferred to a prison camp in Formosa. Interned with them are the Com-mander-in-Chief c the N.E.I. Army, Lieutenant-General Hein ter Poorten, and Generals Cox, Ugen, Pesman, Schilling, Uhl, van Rees, Overakker, de Fremery and Bakkers.

It is .significant that the Japanese military authorities consider .it necessary to remove from the N.E.I, men who were leaders of the people.
