HIT ON HEAD?
KARAKA AFFAIR
INTRUDER SURPRISED
Surprised on the premises of a farmhouse at Karaka in the early hours of this morning, an intruder apparently attempted to escape but was allegedly hit on the head with a tomahawk. The alleged intruder is now in the Auckland Hospital. He is suffering from scalp wounds which are stated to he fairly serious. The affair took place at the farm of Mr. A. F. Jagger. at Karaka. Mr. Jagger was in Auckland at the time. The property was in the charge of the farm manager, Mr. Hen, who occupied a house somewhat removed from the farmhouse. At 3.30 a.m. Mr. Ben awakened and saw a light in Mr. Jagger's house. He went to investigate, and apparently surprised an intruder on the premises. "While declining to give full details of the incident. Mr. Ben confirmed this afternoon a report that the intruder, a man, attempted to escape. Mr. Ben also said that the man was struck with a tomahawk. "It. was only a minor affair," said Mr. Ben. "The police have the full details, and my statement. I don't want to say more." Mr. Ben said Mr. Jagger was still m town. This morning detectives from the Central Police Station began inquiries. .
