MATRICULATION

FOUR-YEAR COURSE

ACCREDITING APPROVED

The wisdom of teachers being impressed with the desirability of making matriculation a four-year course was suggested by the senior inspector. Mr. If. McChesnev. at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board this morning.

Mr. TircCliesne.v said that although a four-year course, as against a threeyear course, could not be enforced, teachers could use their moral influence in the matter. In the last issue of the Education Gazette, the Education Department published information to the effect that the Senate of the t'nivorsity of NewZealand had approved of accrediting for university entrance.

When effect was given to this decision. he said, the present, university entrance examination would go out of existence and it. would be possible for the Department to remodel in any way thought fit the prescription in school certificate subjects.

Mr. J. Patterson: Who will do the accrediting?

The Senior Inspector: That has not been determined definitely yet. The senior inspector's report was adopted.
