PETTY OFFICER'S DEATH

ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED

A verdict of death from accidental drowning was returned by the coroner, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M.. at an inquest into the death of Pettv Officer William Reid Stuart, whose body was found in the W T aitemata Harbour, near the ferry wharf at Birkenhead, on March 6. Stuart, who was a single man, aged 26 years, resided at Devonport. Evidence was given that Stuart spent the evening of March 5 at the Devonport Working Men's Club. He was last seen after leaving the club at 11.30 p.m. He was then sober. He was understood then to be going home. There were no marks of violence on the body, and no evidence was given as to how he got into the water.
