STILL NOT TRACED
ESCAPED GERMANS
IN HIDING WITH FRIENDS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The search by the police and army for the three Germans who escaped from internment on Somes Island on Wednesday night has failed to reveal them yet. Up till last night no sign of them, except for the boat from the island and the improvised oars which were discovered on the shore near Petone on Thursday morning, had been discovered. It is generally surmised that the men are by now hiding, probably with friends, but the police are confident that they will be discovered sooner or later. Their apprehension will be hastened if the public report to the police any stranger in their district who fits the description of the men. Such reports already have been received at police stations, but in each case the police have checked off the suspect as not being one of the missing men.
