KRAAL'S MILE
Brilliant Effort At Takanini TELLSOM IN FORM Kraal, who is engaged in the Ponui Handicap on Saturday, galloped brilliantly over a mile on the inside grass at Takanini this morning. Kraal made the good time of 1.45. She was assisted by Court Favourite, but beat that mare by two lengths.
Tellsom also excelled at a mile, recording 1.45 3-5. Tellsom worked particularly well and seems certain to run a good race in the Alison Cup on Saturdav. At his last appearance, Tellsom had a runaway victory at a mile at Te Rapa. Any doubts existing about Sleepy Fox's fitness for his Cambria Handicap engagement were dispelled when he decisively defeated Kaitere Maati over four furlongs in 51s. Sleepy Fox won tne gallop by 10 lengths. Royal Merit, who will be among Sleepy Fox s week-end rivals, also worked over four furlongs. He was accompanied by Beau Vaals, but always had the measure of that youngster in 52 3-ss. Roval Merit looks exceptionally well, but Takanini watchers doubt whether he will prove a better prospect than Sleepy Fox on Saturday. ' Gold Money Song Smart Gold Money Song took the honours at five furlongs. He conceded Cambria a start of three lengths and finished on terms with that gelding in 1.3.
Miss Gay, a candidate for the Takapuna Plate, had an easy victory over First Edition over six in 1.18. Miss Gay, who has remained unbeaten at her last two starts, is in great heart.
Foxlore and Sea Law were companions for six m 1.18 3-5. They finished abreast, but Foxlore appeared to shade his associate.
Watchett and Sporting Bronze ran four furlongs in 51 3-ss. They worked from the five furlongs to the one-furlong post. Watchett, who revealed good form, beat Sporting Bronze by three lengths. Grandora showed his customary dash over five furlongs in 1.4, time which was equalled by Indian Princess. The latter worked with Brazen Bold, who appeared to be doing the better at the finish. Orelio worked comfortably over a mile in 1.47 1-5. Orelio has reached the peak of his form as a result of recent racing and is sure to give a good account of himself in the Alison Cup. He is favourite for the race.
Bronwen and Miss Jose were restricted to easy tasks. Yesterday they ran five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Other trials were:— Three Furlongs.—Good Armour, 39 3-ss; Gaigarde. 39 3-ss; King's Cross, 39 3-ss.
