EMPLOYEE CHARGED

ALLEGATION OP THEFT

Meeting a charge that he stole £137, the moneys of his employers, when employed as manager of the photographic department of John Court, Limited, Frederick John Hawke, aged 51 (Mr. Dickson and Mr. Henry), gave evidence before Mr. Justice Fair and a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon denying the theft. • Accused said he has been for 32 years in the firm, and suggested that the money taken as indicated through a checking of the cash and the work done must have been taken at times when he was absent and others had access to the room where the cash was. To Mr. V. R. Meredith, accused suggested that a clever thief had desisted from his thefts while accused was on holiday, so that suspicion might fall on accused. (Proceeding.)
