NEW APPOINTMENTS
N.Z. RAILWAY SERVICE
WORKSHOPS—LOCO RUNNING
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Monday
The appointment is announced of Mr. p. R. Angus, locomotive superintendent of the Railways Department, Wellington, as chief mechanical engineer. In that capacity he takes control of the workshop and locomotive running branches. He will be assisted by Mr. H. W. Dallison, manager of the Addington workshops, who has been appointed workshops superintendent, Wellington.
Announcing these appointments to-day, the Minister of Railways, the Hon. R. Semple, said it had been decided to re-establish unified control of the workshops and locomotive running branches. For some years these branches had been controlled as separate units by the superintendent of workshops and the locomotive superintendent respectively, but in future both sections would be under the control of the chief mechanical engineer, this being the organisation which obtained prior to
Mr. Angus joined the Department in 1910. He was appointed locomo tive engineer at Grey mouth in 1921 and was transferred to the chief mechanical engineer's office, Wellington, in 1924. Following a brief term as loconiotive engineer, Christchurch, in 1926, he was appointed assistant chief mechanical engineer in November of that year. Since December, 1931, he has been locomotive superintendent in charge of the locomotive running branch of the Department.
Mr. Dallison joined the Department in 1903, commencing his service at the Addington workshops. He was appointed workshops foreman at Invercargill in 1928. From 1930 to 1936 he held important supervisory positions at the Hutt workshops until taking-up the position of works manager at Addington.
