SOCCER CHALLENGE
ENGLISH TROPHY MATCH The recent challenge trom Auckland to Wellington for a match for the English Trophy was the subject of a letter of acceptance from the New Zealand Council, which stated that It had referred the matter of a suitable date to the Wellington Association. The secretary. Mr. W. Harrison, said he had not yet received official notification from the Wellington Association, out Mr. P. O. Fullbrook. the Auckland selector, produced a personal letter from the Wellington selector. Mr. E. Gates, In which the last-named referred to June 28 as the date to be submitted by the Wellington Association for the match. This date was also stated by several members as having appeared In the Press in a report of the Wellington Association's meeting. It was therefore agreed that. If this date should be officially mentioned by the southern association. It would be accepted. Regarding Auckland's inquiry as to the possibility of a tour of New Zealand by the Chinese Soccer team, which will shortly visit Australia, the New Zealand Council advised that it was pursuing inquiries, but that It did not favour such a tour. However, if Auckland was prepared to carry out a short tour, the council might give the matter consideration, provided the association forwarded suggested conditions as to finance and Itinerary to the council. The matter was referred to the finance committee. The representative game between an Auckland team and a side from the Services, scheduled for King's Birthday, was the subject of a report from Mr. J. C. Slbbln, who stated he anticipated that a strong side would be selected from the Forces, provided leave was obtainable.
