LONGER HOURS.
"IF NECESSARY." NOT FOR PRIVATE GAIN. '"If it is necessary to have an 80-hour week instead of a 40-hour week in the national interest to help Great Britain win this war then we will have an 80hour week,"' said the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C\ 'Webb, when addressing a batch of trainees at the Seddon Memorial Technical College this morning. "I am sure the workers would not hesitate if this necessity arose," continued the Minister, "but the same rule would have to apply to all other people. If this came about no private interests would be allowed to profit to the extent of one penny as the result of this extra labour. It "is an 'all in' policy. When we say 'all in' we mean that every man and every shilling shall be at the disposal of Great Britain. "It means equality of sacrifice. We want everybody to do their utmost even if it means working harder and longer hours, but it must not be for personal gain. If Hitler's form of Government is triumphant it means that a deputation to a Minister would be met with machine-guns and everything worth while would be trampled under foot.

Nobody should be worrying a'bout his profits, but should bo striving to do everything possible to help the Empire so that our democratic and free institutions can remain.
