CARRICK STARTS WELL.
DEFENDING HIS N.Z. TITLE. WELLINGTOXIAN'S RECORD BREAK. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. R. Carrick - (Auckland), holder of the New Zealand amateur billiards title, in beaiting J. Gray, of Christchurch, by 666 points to 386 in the first round made breaks of 25 (unfinished), 34, 44,* 73 and 95. The last was the highest in the first round. A break of 175—a record for New Zealand championship play—gave S. Moses (Wellington) a big lead in his match against R. B. Walker (Christchurch) in the second round this morning. Moses played brilliantly throughout, making few mistakes, and at one stage he had a lead of 400 points over Walker. He played good all-round shots in making his record break and scored from both lowing and winning hazards. Good cannon shots also gave him many points.
A. E. Redmond (Gisborne), 666. including breaks of 31, 36,/ 37. 38. two of 47, 63 and 40 unfinished, beat J. Campbell (Blackball). 448, including breaks of 33, 37, 58 and 61.
A. Twohill (Grey mouth), 6C6, with breaks of 41. two of 42, 44, 46, two of 47, 49 and 55, beat N. Stewart (Dunedin), 334.
