BURGLAR'S THANKS.
"TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT." ELLERSLIE PREMISES RAIDED.. Burglars at Ellerslie found a note attached to a safe stating that it was not locked and contained no valuables. "Thanks! I'll take your word for it," wrote one of the burglars on the note before leaving the premises. A series of burglaries were committed in Ellerslie township on Saturday night or early yesterday morning, when the railway station booking office, picture theatre and three shops 'were entered and ransacked by intruders who may liave been boys or youths. Entering the Ellerslie railway station by smashing a glass panel near the door and releasing the lock from the inside, the burglars searched the left luggage and departed, leaving the office in a state of disorder. Nothing was stolen.
The thieves then turned their attention to the Ellerslie picture theatre, the office of which was entered. However, nothing was taken. Two shops in the same building were also broken into. From one good* and money of a total value of £4 were taken, and from the other a gold watch valued at £5 was stolen. A nearby grocery was also raided, the thieves completely smashing in the front door after breaking two locks and a padlock. Here they stole 4/ in small change. They examined" the safe, to , which was attached the note already mentioned. Another burglary took place at the office of Booth. Macdonald's big factory at Penrose during the week-end. From the office the thie-ves stole about 9/ worth of postage stamps.
