PEKOE JUMPS WELL.

VAALSSTAR RETURNS. AMIGO S GOOD SIX. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Friday. The rising three-year-old filly Belle Cane, formerly trained by 0. Cox, but now in W. H. Dwyer's stable, is being got ready for the spring campaign. The daughter of Beau Pere and Duck's Egg had two starts early in the season, without being prominent, but bred as she is, she should prove useful. Baron Bold put in two rounds at a solid pace yesterday morning, but appeared a trifle sore afterwards. He figures in the hurdles at Hastings on Saturday, and will fulfil his engagement if he throws off the trouble. Oil Ills most recent track worlthls gelding must have a chance if started on Saturday. Pekoe was schooled over six hurdles on Wednesday, jumping well, and yesterday morning was given long, slow work. He Is a very lit horse, and will only need to jump well at Trentham to have good prospects. Vaalsstar Is back on the tracks after a spell since February, during which he has built up well. He Is' now being trained by C. Gordon, and if appearances go for anything the Vaals gelding should in tlie new season show a return to the form be displayed when he won the Dominion Handicap at Avondale last season. The conditions were favourable for training operations on Thursday, but horses with engagements at Trentham were not required to do their best. Amigo (K. Chote) went six furlongs in 1.18 1-5, the first half taking 51 is. He will be given a fast gallop to-morrow and will be taken to Trentham on Monday. The Beau Pere gelding has been allowed to drop out of the Whyte Handicap and will contest tlie Stewards' Handicap, In which, with nil lils weight, he will be hard to beat with any luck In the running.

The Fordell team came In again, but they were let off with easy tasks. Ruatlti and Tuatara were companions In a run over sfx furlongs, which they cut out in 1.19£. They wlil be sent along to-morrow and will leave for Trentham on Sunday. Both are very fit and should show up in their engagements unless soft going upsets them. Red Cat put In a good working gallop over five furlongs.

Uvedale Is training on nicely and should be fairly well forward for the Rangltikei Hunt Club meeting. This filly showed good promise in her two starts 'as a two-year-old, and she is likely to pay her way in the new season.

Pin . Money was glrea another schooling over five hurdles yesterday, morning and ngaln cleared the obstacles In great style. If he stands up to his work this gelding may be * seen out in the hurdles at the Uangltikel Hunt Club meeting.
