HIGH HONOUR.
RT. HON. P. ERASER.
WARM CONGRATULATIONS.
SUPPORT ACKNOWLEDGED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. SjKmtaneous and hearty applause came from both sides of the House of Representatives this morning when the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Hamilton, warmly congratulated the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, on his appointment by the King as a Privy Councillor. He felt Mr. Fraeer would appreciate and grace the high honour which was conferred for life on men of distinction throughout the Empire.
In a modest and brief reply, Mr. Fraser thanked Mr. Hamilton sincerely for his congratulations and good wishes. Naturally, he said, one appreciated the confidence shown in making the appointment. His pleasure, great as it would be in ordinary circumstances, was not unmixed at the preeent moment because of the war situation, and the situation of the British Government and the peoples of the British Commonwealth. The additional responsibility was great because it made us feel we were part of one British family. Whatever happened in one part of the Empire affected us here.
Mr. Fraser expressed thanks for the help and support given him and the Government by all sections of the House in the critical period since September last. A fellow Privy Councillor. Mr. Coates, crossed the floor of the House and shook b ancle with Mr. Fraser.
