£80 TAKEN.
SAFEBLOWERS AGAIN. MONEY IN CASH BOXES. THIEVES AT BIRKENHEAD. Expert safeblowers got another large haul last night when they blew open the safe in the office of the Birkenhead Borough Council and etole two cash boxes containing about £80 in cash.
Entrance was gained by wrenching the lock from the rear door. The door of the safe wae blown completely off its hinges, the locked drawers being forced open and two cash boxee taken away.
About £21 of the £80 stolen was the property of the Waitemata Electric Power Board. This money had been paid in by customers to the receiving depot at the council's office. In the cash boxee also were several pay envelopes containing v.-agee due to members of the Birkenhead Fire. Brigade, all ready to be handed out to-day. The balance of the cash was the property of the Birkenhead Borough Council.
Several residents heard a loud explosion early this morning. The. clock in the council's office stopped at 2.40 a.m.
