A LAPSE OF MEMORY.
•I should like to congratulate Mr. J. A. !Lee on Mβ protest in -the House against the increase in the sales tax on such items as children's clothe* and shoes. In the days before they eame into office members of the present Cabinet used to froth at the month ■when they spoke of the sales tax, which they described as an iniquitous form of taxation. After attaining .power, however, they seem to have suffered a lapse of memory, for the sales tax has remained in operation to this day. Now it is to be doubled. One way and another, people with small incomes and large families are going to have a pretty bad time. That they should iheve to pay sales tax at all on, for example, children's shoes, which are a fantastic price to begin (with, is certainly unjust, but the further increase can only be called—well, let us say iniquitous. FATHER.
