MT. ALBERT EFFORT.
GIFTS TO SOLDIERS.
The spirit of giving to make the lot of the men of New Zealand's overseas forces as bright as is humanely possible is general throughout the Dominion, and organisations, large and small, are everywhere busy collecting funds or goods to provide parcels for the men on active service. A move made in the borough of Mt. Albert has much to commend it. Here a committee has been set up with the Mayor. Mr. H. A. Anderson, as chairman, and the town clerk, Mr. T. R.' Conga as secretary -treasurer, and the object is to collect funds to enable gift* being made to those men of the forces who are resident of Mt. Albert. Mr. Congalton this morning stated that the movement had only just been launched and already he had received £10 in donations, and it was hoped that by the holding of social gatherings such as card evenings- and the like the fund would increase sufficiently to enable gifts to he provided for every man of Mt. Albert who had already, or would later, go overseas. "To the men of the Third and subsequent Echelons we hope to present a wallet containing some cash,"' said Mr. Congalton "'and those who have left on active service we will send a. parcel. I would be pleased if relatives and friends of the men already gone from our borough would send me the names and particulars so that a complete list can be compiled. We arp anxious that none should l>e overlooked. Incidentally I will welcome any donations that will assist us in carrying out our objective."
