FULL EFFORT URGED.
PRESIDENTS MESSAGE. SUBURBAN LOCAL BODIES. Maximum effort in a tiir.c of crisis is urged in tbe annual report by the president of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association, Mr. I. J. Goldstine,' who says:— "Notwithstanding the reverses audi setbacks sufTered by Britain and her Allies, I am confident that the outcome will see them victorious in every ephcrc. Britain is never so dangerous as when the threat is greatest, and the history of the world during the last thousand years shows that however desperate her plight her unrivalled resources and the resilient courage and determination of her people, have enabled her to snatch victory out of the very jaws of defeat. To achievc j this victory, nothing less than the maximum of effort of every man and woman not only in the Homeland, but also ini the Empire overseas, including this Dominion, is essential. . In this effort,' the local authorities must play their part, and I am confident that they will do so to the utmost. Let me exhort' members of local authorities not to be content merely with the literal fulfilment of the duties assigned to them, but to perform such duties with the will and enthusiasm that will produce a result far, greater than that which is demanded of j them. We have an opportunity of set-| ting an example to our fellow citizens and may I ask you to give a lead which will be an inspiration to all."
