QUEEN CARNIVAL
SICK AND WOUNDED. TOTAL OVER £62,000. MORE CONTRIBUTIONS. Further contributions to the Sick and Wounded Fund have, brought the total to £62,274. In the Queen Carnival competition, the Queen of the South, Mrs. Gordon Matthews, maintains the lead, with the Commercial Travellers' Queen, Miss H. Purdom, second. The latest voting figures are:—South, 874,014; Commercial Travellers, 739,197; East, 551,489; Air, 550,729; Public Service, 520,139; Sea, 458,631; North, 426,587; Sporta, 413,695; Soldiers, 236,500; Maori, 210,985. The crowning ceremony -will be held at a ball at the Town Hall on Tuesday, July 2, and on the following evening it will be repeated at a People's Night, also at a children's matinee on July 6. The crowning ceremony is to be performed by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. The Pakuranga Hunt Club has decided to make a further donation of fIOO to the Sick and Wounded Fund, and the money will go to support the Sports Queen, Miss Asquith. A cheque for £150 has been received from MJC. Manufacturers, Ltd., this including £119 raised by the staff, the remainder being contributed by the company. It is expected that the fund will benefit considerably to-morrow evening from attendances at 29 suburban theatres. Over 11,000 tickets have been printed. The proceeds will be allocated to the various queens in proportion to the number of tickets their supporters .sell. A ball will be held at the Town Hall this evening to assist the Maori Queen, Miss Ramai Te Miha. Under the organisation of the commercial travellers a revue entertainment will commence at His Majesty's Theatre this evening, and be continued on the two following evenings. To-morrow evening the yachtsmen's ball will be held at the Town Hall to assist the Queen of the Seas, Mrs. W. 18. Darlow. There will be special ballets, ' and the decorations will be a feature.
