NOT GUILTY.

Insanity Verdict In Trial Of

Lawlor.

ATTEMPTED MUBDEB CHARGES

MELBOURNE, February 27

A verdict of not guilty on the ground of insanity was returned in the Criminal Court to-day in the case of Ledwedge Vincent Lawlor, aged 42, a munitions worker, who was charged on two counts of wounding with intent to murder, and alternatively, on two counts of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and on two counts of unlawful wounding.

Lawlor was charged in London last year with having tired a shot as the Duchess of Kent was leaving her home and was released on bond on condition that he left England.

The Prosecutor yesterday said it was alleged that two men had been shot by Lawlor when he was under the influence of liquor. The police found him to be carrying a rifle with the stock and the barrel sawn down.

Lawlor's counsel said that accused had twice been certified as insane and had been detained at an asylum from 1932 to 1936.

Accused was ordered, to be detained in gaol until the Governor's pleasure is known.
