«HOP ASSISTANTS' HOURS;

Protest- against the decision of the Second Arbitration Court not to grant a 40-hour week was made at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Shop Assistants' Union laet evening.

A resolution was passed,' that should it be necessary for the country to be declared in a state of war, the discussion and any resolutions should be null and void, the meeting pledging itself to support the Government to the utmost in an endeavour to' aid the commerce and productivity of'the country to the fulleVt extent.
