TALK OF REWARD.
WORKING fOR LOVE.
SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
"There is too much talk of rewards for services these days. Let's do something for nothing for a change," declared a speaker at the quarterly meeting of the. Auckland SchoqJ Committees' Association last evening. The question of payment to secretaries of school committees was' under discussion. "I think people will do far more for love than they will for money. Many people deem it an honour to be able to do this work for their committees for nothing," said another speaker.
T»6 remits that the time had come when secretaries of «c.hool committees should receive some reward for their services, either in the form of an honorarium or a salary were defeated on the voices after a lively discussion. The feeling of the meeting eeemed to be that those who had the good of their schools at heart 'would be only too pleased to do the work on an honorary basis. It was. however, decided to ask the Education Board if it was in order for an honorarium to be paid.
A considerable amount of busineee was done by the meeting, which wae attended by representatives from some 36 school committees, including delegate* from a« far afield ae dlcn Maeeey β-nd Dargaville. The report from the delegates ef the Auckland association to the National Conference of the Dominion Federation of School Committees, recently held at Christchurch, were dealt with in full. The president, Mr. A. A. Buckley, and Mfs. F. W. Mountjoy, dealt with remits passed at tKe conference, and Mr. F. C. Pace with the social side of the activities.
A remit from the Dargaville School Committee aeking that the Education Board make available special cleeses for the training of instructors in domestic science at the Auckland Teachers' Training College wae carried unanimously. It was pointed out that there wae a lack of facilities for the teaching of domestic science in the north. Instructors from the north would have to go to Dunedin for training, at a cost of some £300. There wae an urgent need for training facilities nearer at hand.
