GREAT BARRIER.
MR. THORN'S ADDRESSES.
Mr. James Thorn, Labour candidate for Thames, paid a visit during the week-end to the Great Barrier, which was recently added to the Thames electorate. On Saturday afternoon he met settlers at Whangapara and discussed with them road, bridges and wharf problems. On the motion of Mr. Sanderson, chairman of the local County Council, he was accorded a vote of thanks. In the evening Mr. Thorn addressed a public meeting in the hall at Whangapara. Mr. H. Petrie presided. Despite stormy weather, the meeting was well attended, and the candidate was given a friendly reception. On the motion of Mr. P. Gray, a farmer, he was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
The following afternoon Mr. Thorn met settlers at Okupu. He inspected the harbour and had the needs of the district explained to him. After a brief address a motion of thanks was carried. Mr. Thorn afterwards visited the new aerodrome at Kaitoki. He returned to Thames on Monday afternoon after a stormy passage from Whangapara.
