AVONDALE EVENTS. TE MONA7EKAPA SCORES. THXKZ HOME! TAJJU In the Maiden Plate, the opening event, Paddy the Rip wai installed a warm favourite. 'Bhe support was justified, as he waa oi® of the pacemnkers from barrier-rise, and finished on very solidly to get the verdict by half a length. Thin distance could have been increased if McTavish (the jockey) had desired. Frontino ran an honest race and his turn for a win la due »t any time. Spearford was running on In solid style over the last furlong. Hessketoon and Silver Quex both ran creditable races. When the field was diapatehed, Pocket Venus, Frontino, Lady Defoe and Paddy the Rip were first to show out, and after they had covered a furlong Paddy the Rip was showing the way to Kenneth Robert, Frontino, PenuiAee, Pocket Venus, Maioro and Valdene. The lastnamed went through fast and showed the way into the straight, with Paddy the Rip, Kenneth Robert, Frontino and Gay Hussar, almost on terms, heading the others. Paddy the Rip did best in the run home to win by half a length from Frontino, with Spearford (finishing on) a similar distance away. Hessketoon was next, followed by Silver Qdcx, Pocket Venus, Maioro, Kotahi Acre, K«n«th Robert and Gamoa.

Hia victory wm due in a Urge measure to profloieat Jumping, and he gives every indication of being a successful performer over hurdlee. Simint tried to win all the way, and it wai only after jumping the last fence that he surrendered the lead. Erination, the favourite, came on the eeene over the final atages, but juat failed. Te Monatekapa, Simint and Flaah By were in eharge at the first fence, where Illimani turn to grief. Chlkara did likewise at the second obstacle. Simint wae then left in front, with Te Monatekapa, Flaah By, and Golden Spahi handy. The leaders were followed out of the etraight by Queen La, Erination and Car Leaf. There wae little alteration along the back, but at the fenee at the fire furlongs poet Queen Lu toppled. Staaint led aeroae the top and into the etraight from Te Monatekapa, Golden Spahi and Car Leaf, with Erination moving up faat, and Electric Flaah and Flaah By next. Simint and Te Monatekapa took the laat fence on terms, the latter wearing hie opponent down in the run to the poet to win by a neck, with Erination, who finished fast, a length away. Car Leaf and Electric Flash were the. only others to finish. Good Performance. Having hia first race as a three-year-old, Royevrua waa responsible for a good performance in winning the Henderson Handicap, aa he was giving the leadera a good start when half the journey had been covered. Sir Tommy jumped out In front and had every chance, and the rao» ia aure to improve him. Forest Acre waa finishing on well, while Phildale, in running close behind the placed hones, drew attention to hia future prospect*. Sir Tommy began best from Phildale and Ngawirl.
