Made a hot favourite for the Maiden Plate, the opening event at the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting, which commenced to-day, Paddy The Rip, who races in the colours of Mr. B. Myers, never Rave his numerous supporters any cause for concern. He was always one of the leaders, and .although he only won by half a length he was not "all out"' at the finish.
The second event, however, resulted in a surprise, the littlefancied Te Monatekapa scoring by a neck from Simint, who had endeavoured to lead throughout.
The weather was overcast, and there was a large attendance. The track was in fairly good order.
In winning the Henderson Handicap, Royevms was responsible for a meritorious performance as he was a long way behind the leaders when half the distance had been covered. He then up to win by a neck.
