HOUSING SURVEY ACT.
"Mother." lilce a good many other people, is apparently under the impression that the present Government was responsible for "the housing inspection, incidentally at a. cost of thousands to the ratepayers"* to -which the refers. In point of fact, the Act under which this was carried out was passed by the late Government. It was introduced by Mr. Coatee towards the close of his Government's last session, and passed -with very little dkcoMion, none of the present clamorous champions of freedom having- a word to say against it. The reason given for its introduction was that the Government intended to deal with the housing question, and could not do so effectively unless it first ascertained the facte of the position. I know of no evidence that Mr. Coates and bis colleagues were actuated by any suea sinister motive as "Mother" suggests, bat possibly she may know more about that matter than* I. M IL
