ECONOMIC PENSIONS.
WILL BE RESTORED.
ASSURANCE BY MINISTER.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The hope that a bill will be introduced in Parliament this month providing for the restoration in full of the economic pension for returned soldiers was expressed by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, during a political address at Petone to-night. The Minister said the Government had been criticised because it had not restored the full economic pension, but in facing the position, the Government had to deal with two problems. There was only £70,000 available and there was a tremendous number of soldiers' widows who were receiving nothing because their iqarriages had not taken place within seven years of the war. The Government had altered the qualification to include all widows married on the day of the passing of the legislation in 1936. That had been an alternative to restoring pensions in fulL
